Toronto based songwriter Alexandra Babiak is releasing her
Babiak began her music career playing the violin at the young age 4 and has been performing ever since. A lover of old jazz icons like Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, and Ella Fitzgerald, OSYPA’s music is nostalgic and highlights her old soul. Her Jeff Buckley tattoo also tips off his influence on her. When asked about what inspires her & the songs on the EP, OSYPA talks about behaviour, “specifically how differently people respond to the same events. Everyone experiences the world in a drastically different way, and that makes me think.”
The work is reflective, as she wrote the songs featured on the EP after the sudden death of her mother, resulting in vulnerable tracks which focus on loss and grief. That said, one can also find an uplifting lightness to the artist’s work, who lists walking in High Park, taking baths, eating candy & reading mystery novels as some of her favourite things.
